History 

The Presidents College Kotte Eastern Cadet Band began as a mixed band in 1979 under Madam Nanda Wikramasinghe.

Since its inception the band has performed at every major event held in Presidents College, Kotte, Sri Lanka. Converted to a full-time boys' band in 1981, the band has since then participated in many major regional events as well as in several highly prestigeous all-island competitions. What follows is a timeline of major events since then: 



1999: the band performs at the Mahaveli Sports Meet alongside the Sri Lankan Army Band; in the same year, the band 

           performs  at the Mahapola Ceremony hosted by Presidents College, Kotte.

 

2001: the band performs at the opening ceremony of the Jayawiru Sampatha Lottery. Participating in the Miyusara Music Festival

           hosted by the D.S. Senanayaka Vidyalaya, the band is awarded the third place.

 

2002: the band officially becomes a cadet band and is named the Eastern Cadet Band of President's College, Kotte. The E.C.B 

          participates in the one-day training camp held by the 3rd Watch of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), and is ranked at

          number 16 among the Cadet Bands of Sri Lanka. The year 2002 also marks the construction of the base building of the

         Eastern Cadet Band. 

 

2003: the E.C.B, led by S.G.T Nirudhaka Thilakarathna, participates in the annual National Cadet Band camp and is ranked 5th.

 

2006: the E.C.B, led by S.G.T Ranindu Lakshan Siriwardana, obtains the 2nd place at the annual National Cadet Band camp. 

 

2007: the E.C.B performs at the prestigious Swarnawahini Swarnabhimanaya 2007.
